I know why he brought in Clinton. The man is the most popular political figure in America right now. Bad location and timing without a doubt.
On the more important subject of the tax deal, I think it is not the best thing to do for the country. It is a short term fix filled with easy promises that will add trillions to the deficit everyone has been screaming about for so long.
The fact of the matter is Obama caved because this was the only way to get any kind of real stimulus, which he's now getting with 13 months extension on unemployment benefits, as well as a number of business tax incentives. For reasons already explained this will have a much quicker effect on getting the economy moving than the two year tax extension for filthy rich people who are not spending their money. And the reality is long term deficit reduction should not trump time-proven short term polices to get the economy moving. There can be no serious deficit reduction if the economy is not growing.
The tax deal also opens the door for votes on START, DADT and the dream act.
