Please list the details of the "success" of stimulus programs over the past 70 years. Some time back I went over what actually happened during the Hoover administration and the New Deal. Nobody wanted to hear it. The myth is what counts.
Again, more recently, Bush's "stimulus" didn't work. Obama's much larger "stimulus" - actually a carefully-targeted distribution of loot to favored recipients - didn't work. The Democrats actually had to invent the concept of virtual "saved jobs" to cover their butts.
In the last three years we've spent about $300 billion on unemployment benefits. To put that in perspective, that's enough to run NASA for over 15 years. So how's that working so far?
Keynesianism is attractive to Democratic politicians because ALL the power lies with the entity passing out the loot. Some people will get some. Some won't. Who decides? The politicians. Oddly, the money tends to go to places that help the politicians more than the economy. Like the Obama stimulus.
Across-the-board tax cuts also keep a lot of money in the private economy, but Democrats don't like them. Why? There's no POWER in it. The money is a simple math calculation, with the most money remaining with those who pay the most taxes. No strings, no kickbacks, no graft.
A key observation on motivations: The Democrats are touting spending billions of money the government doesn't have on unemployment as a great economic stimulus. The same Democrats are screaming about the "lost" money from tax cuts, and that it will not stimulate the economy. This makes sense only if it never was about economics in the first place.
