Same here, guys!
I guess I've been on both sides of the coin (bad analogy). I've lived in a country that has no civil laws whatsoever and managed to strip the people of all of their rights and would have killed(which they did)/starved many more if it wasn't for the watchfull eye of other civilized and democratic countries. I am thankfull that the country I live in now, the U.S. of A., is the antithesis of my previous one.
The U.S. is not perfect, but as I've said before and I'll never tire of saying it... it's government system is pretty darn close to perfection.
Because of the two different cultures I've experienced, I feel that sometimes, I have to be quick to get my views and point/s accross. I am a bit spiritual however and often times, I back off and hope that the person posting what I don't agree with will eventually get a better idea on their own.
I think most of us have come to realize now that being vigilant and defensive of what this country truly stands for is very well worth the effort. Some, however, may have to find out the hard way, but not while I'm here. It's very hard for me to write a rebuttal so that the person I'm disagreeing with understands my point of view, so I have to back off for a while. Very often, I come back and find that Tom, Larry, Matt, Frank or Dan have pretty much said what I wanted to say. I wasn't a cheerleader in H.S. and I'm not about to start being one now. lol
I'm always open to new ideas and when I disagree... I disagree. I'm not a fan of Rush, Buchannan or Daschel and I've found myself agreeing most of the time with Armstrong Williams whenever I catch him on television (I don't have the patience to listen to talk radio these days).
Politically, most of those on my side of the family votes Democrat (on husband's side, they're all Republicans lol). In my US lifetime and personal opinion, the best presidents we've had have been John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan. I considered myself a Liberated Independent (lol) that leans more towards the Republican points of view.
