<I know it's perennially hard for conservatives to accept, but an integral component of the American Way is the freedom to dissent.

Funny how you Rightists are outraged by any expansion of government power when your side's not in power, yet when your guy's running the show, it's just peachy-keen when he grabs all the power he can get and uses it against your opponents.



Using WHAT power against my "opponents?" My "opponents" are doing just fine, thanks.

Not one...bloody...person...has been prevented by the government from dissenting in this country. Not one.

We were treated to thousands of dissenters on TV day and night. Everybody and their cat has been dissenting on television, in newspapers, in speeches, on campuses, on the internet...in fact it has been damn hard to find a place where somebody ISN'T dissenting. There are web pages and publications which insult Bush at levels that would not even be permitted in many nations in Europe, much less the rest of the planet. Not one government action has been taken to stifle any of this.

Nobody has been detained for dissent (unless other crimes are involved). Nobody has been fined. Nobody's been targeted for audits by the IRS, which is more than you could say for the Clinton Administration. Nobody has disappeared.

The Bush Administration has not violated the rights of anyone who has spoken out against the war, and shows no signs of doing so.

As for dealing with other activities besides protesting, we have two U.S. citizens being held for investigation without normal legal protections. Two.
