is almost completely due to excessive taxation. The price of crude oil is set on the world market. Companies in your country pay the same number of dollars per barrel (the dollar is the standard) as our companies. However, your government levies much higher taxes on oil than ours. There can also be other factors such as possibly higher refinery costs but taxs amount for almost all of the difference in price.
By way of comparison, I just paid $1.35 for regular gas this afternoon. Of that price, 40.3 cents per gallon was tax. You're getting screwed by your government even more than we are. I wouldn't mind the gas tax so much if all of it was going for highway construction and repair but that simply isn't the case.
