that "if you have not served in the military, then you have no business discussing military issues" or "if you're not black, you have no right to discuss racial issues."
How would you like it if one of us shouted you down on an argument because you had no firsthand experience with the issue being discussed? It's a bully's tactic. It isn't any more valid on abortion than any other issue. Experience in a particular area can lend credence to your opinions but it doesn't negate the right of others to hold opinions, too.
I remember hearing some airhead feminist on NPR a few years ago saying, "Well, I don't have a prostate so I don't care about prostate cancer."
What an arrogant, self-centered view of the world! I'm not a woman but there are many, many women in my life that I care about deeply. I have a wife, mother, daugher-in-law, sister, several sisters-in-law, and more nieces than I can keep track of. I also have friends and neighbors who are women. I care about the medical and other issues that impact their life. The old "if you aren't a woman then you aren't allowed to have an opinion" argument is beneath you.
