<<Liberalism has its basis in emotion - not reality.
You heard it here first!
Hate to clue you, dear, but emotion is more real than logic. Logic is a trained way of thinking, a construct, a frame of reference. Love, hate and fear are inborn, found in everyone, from the very young to the very old. They form the basis of the human psyche. Ask Psyche herself what her world was like when Eros left.
No, emotions are surface consciousness REACTIONS to external stimuli. They are the mirror of your consciousness as your past meets the present.
Love is understanding - true love is understanding something even more. When we love a spouse - we understand them better, what makes them tick, their minds, etc. A crush is an infatuation - a surface reflection of the past and the present.
Logic and reason are not trained, but rather they are the systematic using of ALL one's understanding and intellect not just surface reflections.
Marriages made on surface reflections are hit and miss - mostly miss.
Logic is not the absence of emotion. But rather the use of one's intellect in such a way that emotion is put in proper perspective and not used as the primary motivation for any action.
Hate is misunderstanding - or a lack of understanding. You could hate me if I were standing in your library and only momentarily meet and I say something that makes me appear like an intolerant lout. However, here - with more information - hate is made much more difficult. With more information we see WHY a person thinks the way they think. Hatred is the surface emotion based upon past experiences with similar circumstances. With more data - hate flies right out the window and is replaced with either pity or compassion.
It's easy to hate Saddam, Hitler et.al., however if one lived with them for any period of time - or perish forbid, were related - one would not be able to hate them quite as easily. Pity, sadness and compassion would replace the hate. Can one hate the deranged? Or the insane?
Fear is also based upon past experiences and a lack of information. The more we know about something -whether it be a trip to the dentist or an upcoming test - fear diminishes in a ratio which is proportionate to increased knowledge. Fear of death is fear of the unknown. However, once one knows exactly what is going on - fear disappears. Even pain, when a known commodity is less fearful than an unknown pain or quantity of pain.
And then there are the secondary, or derivative emotions, those which are founded in the basic three -- emotions like courage, stinginess, generosity, cowardice...
Courage, stinginess, generosity and cowardice are decisions made - based upon emotions.
Naturally, emotion is very unscientific and leads to gross misjudgments.
Yeah, like running into burning skyscrapers to rescue people.
That is also a decision...based on emotions an reason.
Didja ever wonder why, if liberalism is so darned screwy, why people still find it attractive?
Shaking my head @ you--
Mary Anne
Liberalism is attractive because it appeals to a surface emotional response. Not to be sexist - but women are more often liberal because of this surface, gut reaction response. A man will roll up the toothpaste tube systematically - logically - to extract the maximum toothpaste. A woman will just squeeze the tube in whatever way she feels like. The nurturing instinct of women is more compatible with the soundbites of the liberal agenda: Peace, equality, justice, etc.
Men can be liberal too - but they are likely to be fly-off-the-handle types who get enraged easily and swing fists first and ask questions later. Most protestors I have met are often very volatile and unstable because they let their emotions control their actions. Ironically, many are quick to violence and mayhem, even when protesting for peace!
Liberalism is attractive for these reasons. It avoids complex matters and replaces them with emotional-catch alls.
Naturally, this statement will get you all riled up and you will want to hate me again - but you know just too darn much to do it! Your knowledge has mastered your urge to hate.
Take Care Mary Anne!
