<The American people will pay a heavy price for Bush's war.
At first glance, one would think so. But as time goes on, I'm beginning to wonder if this vast "terrorist threat" is really all that effective. Nothing significant has happened in the U.S. since 9-11 and the anthrax scare, and without a doubt a successful terrorist attack on the U.S. right now would be a huge coup for the radical Islamists. A number of tempting opportunities have come and gone: Independence Day, State of the Union addresses, Super Bowls, etc. We have been alerted by various sources to possible "imminent attacks" several times, including one just a couple of days ago that is supposed to occur within "ten days." Nothing.
A case can be made that law enforcement is on top of things...certainly several possible attempts overseas have been intercepted and the culprits arrested. Or maybe we did fracture the infrastructure of terrorism, and they're running around like headless chickens. Or maybe we've just been lucky.
I predict that if terrorism does increase in the wake of a war, that most of it will be overseas, with embassies and such being prime targets. Israel of course will take the brunt of a lot of it.
I guess we'll see.
