I can't beleive how many people trot this out. Goering was a sadistic syphillitic psychopath who by the luck of the draw and statistics was likely to eventually say something that was within a stone's throw of coherent, and people quote him half a century later like he was some sort of prophet. That bastard didn't know people, he didn't know politics, he *barely* knew aircraft...his only real claim to fame is that he knew Hitler. What a pedegree, huh? Let's quote him!
"Gee, there's talk of war in the air, some Nazi *must* have said something favorable about war, so let's parade it in front of everyone and see who jumps like a frog..."
Churchill could easily have said the same thing in one of his less lucid, more cynical moments--or perhaps simply a drunken stupor. From him, the words *may* had meant something, but from Goering it's just historical drivel.
"From the master...?" No way. Goebbels maybe...but Goering?
