Re: What if..

What if Iraq could let investors, companies, the market in, and export whatever they wanted out? What if it were let open to the world?
That would make "hiding anything they are not supposed to hide" much more difficult!
There would constantly be the threat of someone revealing a secret (in exchange of money or whatever) to someone from outside. That's what Europeans have done to each other: build up trust.

As for France's dependancy on oil, well...it went nuclear, didn't it? It has learned the 1973 lessons and one gallon is still 4$ with or without Iraq.

The least expensive way out of Iraq is war. Destroying Iraq's ability to function as an international threat will save the taxpayers those many millions.

That's short term thinking...There is a much more dangerous threat if that happens: the human mind. Nations won't easily forget the US used "Pre-Emptive war" to this end. No democracy has ever done this (Israel was at war since its creation).
This is opening Pandora's Box by excellence. And of course, if the UN vanishes, what will replace it?
Iraq is a secular state (Aziz is a catholic, btw); eliminate its chief, and it unleashes all the religious forces who are waiting for just that.
