. . . except that Iraq is still a growing threat. Just ask prime-target Israel. Just ask prime-target Kuwait. Just ask prime-target Iran. Just ask backup-target Turkey.
The sanctions will remain imposed until such time as Iraq complies with the listed and agreed upon U.N. Resolutions. So far, Iraq has not, thus forcing the U.S., and other supporting nations (primarily the UK) to expend millions just to keep her at bay. Iraq has also been permitted to compromise the sanctity of the U.N. Security Council by trading with its members. Yes, the United States included, but we are not using Iraq as a base for our oil procurements. Shutting off the tap would not injure us, a fact Iraq is very much aware of. Russia and France are a different matter, as they leaped into the pit looking for a primary source of cheap crude.
The least expensive way out of Iraq is war. Destroying Iraq's ability to function as an international threat will save the taxpayers those many millions.
These are truths, interlaced and supported by facts.
I would prefer any other workable option, but there it is,
Dan
