<But jet fuel is essentially kerosene, incapable of sustaining burn termperatures much beyond 800C, according to data I've seen.
If kerosene were so good at melting structural steel, we might expect that steelworkers would be using kerosene torches in their work, rather than the acetylene torches which are actually employed.
Structural steel loses a great deal of its strength at elevated temperatures, long before it gets anywhere near melting. At 800 C, (about 1470 F), the yield point of a typical steel structural element is only about 20 percent of its strength at normal temperatures. Tensile strength is even lower.
Even a normal fire can weaking steel buildings. This is why fireproof coatings and insulation are mandated for all steel buildings, assuming a major impact of some kind doesn't knock most of it loose.
