Okay, let's take this on a purely perceptual monkey-brain level--no abstractions or theories.
Castro, Lenin, Stalin, Kruschev, Mao, Ho Chi Minh, Pol Pot, Tito, Kim Il-Sung, Mugabe, and a host of minor imitators all strode onto the stage of their nations claiming to be Marxists. They carried Marx's book, and said they would reorder their nations according to the ways of Marxism.
They wore a Marxist's collar,
and they wore a Marxist's hat
They wore a Marxist's necktie
They wore a Marxist's shoes
And every Saturday morning
They read the Marxist News.
80 million people died under these regimes, not counting deaths as a result of acts of war. Their economies were ruined, and people died trying to flee across their borders.
On a purely monkey-brain perceptual level, one could be forgiven for greeting the next person who comes along and wants to run our country according to the principles of Marxism with a half-brick stuffed in a sock, rather than allowing him to try installing Marxism, "real" or not.
