re: I appreciate your answer

"I'm sorry Geoff, was I stepping on your toes? "

No.
But I'll let you know if you do.

"I never said never."

"Not in the cards" or never are fairly close. I guess, I'll say never & you can say "not in the cards".

"It is remotely possible to repeat Apollo. But my preferred destination would be Mars, right now. The Moon is a prefect commercial property and any attempt to target it should be helped by NASA but not done by NASA."

There are other options other than NASA building big rockets like the Saturn and NASA doing programs like the Apollo. Apollo was an unique situation- you simply couldn't repeat it, even if there was the political will to do so. Including inflation and the fact of already having experience, Apollo would be at least twice the cost if you did the same thing, again [and like I said it wouldn't be the same]. I really wasn't discussing destinations, rather I was discusing how something is done and "the way of the world" at present and likely to remain in the future. Though it's possibly China or India could change this, but that's probably decades away- with uncertainties so great that in certain aspects, it's fairly useless to discuss.

"What do you think is EP Moon obsessed? He sure was upset when I suggested Mars Society activities had any relationship to Apollo Era geology lessons."

I don't have much interest in EP state of mind. I do know, he thinks that lying and making a fuss about something or someone is a "good thing to do"- he said as much over at MSNBC space board years ago.
And basically, he has said things like killing people would be worth the price of getting the word out about the threat of impactors.
EP is immoral. He believes evil is useful. It's not a very unusual viewpoint. It's merely stupid.
Does anything else need be said?
