If it's the latter, did you want a medical opinion, or a consensus of amateurs?

Or is it just exasperation?

I understand that E.P. Grondine is part of the eccletic milieu of The Habitable Zone, sort of the in-house village idiot, if you will. I cannot fathom any other reason why he is tolerated here, though that is not my call to make. His rants do possess a modicum of entertainment value, though. That said, however, and although I've routinely ignored his delusional postings in the Space Science BBS in the past, I've recently begun to wonder if he is truly psychotic. I did contact some of the members of the "impact community," many of whom are all too familiar with Grondine's reputation as a crank. He was alternately described as a "kook," "delusional," "a net crank," etc. In addition, I recently became aware of an incident where he tried to pass himself off as reporter at NASA HQ and tried to evade security to "confront NASA officials." At first, I thought the story might have been embellished, but I have good reason to believe that the incident actually happened. This is really disturbing. I've passed along a sampling of some of his more outrageous comments to my wife's friend, who happens to be a clinical psychologist. In the meantime, though, I wonder what others' opinions are? Most people, myself included, spar with Grondine as a form of self-entertainment. Sort of like poking a stick at a caged animal; his asinine posts are fairly easy targets. But I wonder: What is he really up to? What motivates him? And is he truly dangerous or just a harmless idiot?
