Playing the game

Not to discourage you, but this won't be your last experience with such classes. When you go to college, you'll be required to take several classes that have nothing to do with your interests or your major. The idea for these classes is to broaden your horizons. Some of them will actually prove interesting and could possibly lead to a lifetime interest you never anticipated. Others will be excruciating and seemingly exist primarily to guarantee employment to otherwise unemployable professors. I remember one engineering class that I took in the early 1990s that met for 4 hours at a time one night a week. I remember one night contemplating hanging myself rather than returning from a break. The other alternative was to hang the professor and plead temproary insanity. I survived (and so did the professor) and so will you.

Over the years, you'll probably have to sit through several classes that you hate just as much as the one you describe. You may have a professor who's a flaming Marxist and who expects you to parrot back his drivel in order to pass. Or it could be a required "whites are the root of all evil" class that's becoming increasingly popular around the country. Just be grateful you're female so you don't have to endure tirades on how men are all evil.

Anyway, you have to learn how to play the game. When you get one of these classes, learn to parrot back the professor's drivel so he thinks you believe it. You may have to suppress your gag reflex while you do it but that's just a price you have to pay.

As for turning in a black piece of construction paper as your map of your inner self, that's not a bad idea*. You could say that there are no lights on inside you so that's all you could see. If you use your line of my inner self is a downward spiral of darkness. For this I blame you", you might get an A but more likely you'd end up being referred for psychiatric evaluation.

* One of the mandatory classes I had to take was "Art Appreciation." Being a geek, I have very little artistic talent or interest. There was one assignment that required us to do a woodcut to create prints. I worked for hours on that assignment and it actually turned out pretty good. I saw others who did something "artistic" in less than an hour and they got the same grade. Our next assignment involved watercolors. I dipped my brush in the different colors and literally flung the paint at the paper. The whole project took maybe 3 minutes. I got an A.
