Romanticism Is A Poor Basis For Making Major Resource Commitments
I don't think space exploration is simply a romantic ideal. It is a matter of very long term survival and most likely economic prosperity in the far nearer term as well. As such decisions should be made on a rational rather than romantic/emotional basis. My two year old gets very excited every time he sees the Moon too.
