lol I just work on lasers now, no national security issues here... just astronomy...
Last time I was at LLNL cell phones were forbidden in the areas I went, so was my laptop... I got to see the NIF facility- it was amazing...I have MAJOR laser envy now... ;)
it is 2 football fields full of lasers... it is mind boggling...
it is astounding the things going on at places like this... I never was ambushed by troops, but on our silly anthrax false alarms we got to see full enviro-suits, and such....
I never did defense type research, but there are proprietary things that I still have to ask permission to talk about- one of the reasons I left national labs is I would like to say what I do...also I dislike the idea of working on something I hope never is used... If I had stayed, I'd be making bio-warfare detectors, most likely, I just cant imagine that being rewarding- to work on something you pray never has a use would be depressing, and to work on offensive weapons would be hell... I prefer pure science... But such things are very valuable, just not stuff I want to work on...
