Pay for performance/contribution. That's the definition of deserving it Tom. The examples I gave clearly don't deserve it. Anyone with an ounce of sense can see that cutting costs 10% increases profitability. That is not a creative or brilliant contribution. The guys doing it are the ones being creative. Companies that understand this have better real growth.
I know this stuff Tom. I live it. Production plants I've worked in have shown an average of 50 % increases in productivity over 1 to 2 years. Management suggestions have had almost no part in these increases. This is not unique to me either. I've worked with a lot of creative people. Stuff your let me explain attitude Tom. I think you are an honest seeker of truth as well, but I think you've got some major blind spots as most of us do.
Capitalism can become almost as corrupt and inefficient as communism (easily less than the Chinese hybrid) when it is allowed to stray from the ideal. Capitalism by its nature results in wealth accumulating to the most successful. This results in a power base that seeks to protect itself based on human nature not anything inate in capitalism. The wealth accumulated by real capitalism then tends to protect itself through means that are often not true to the basic principles of capitalism. We've seen this over and over in US history Tom. We've also seen those that try and scam their way through the system and some have succeeded.

Mark
