When we stopped having strict immigration policy and started hiring illegals like crazy. Bush is trying to manage a tide that is going to change America at least as much as the Irish or German immigration waves did. What did you think the Prez was going to do, call for militarizing the border and rounding up the 12 million+ illegals here into concentraiton camps?
The ONLY choice is to manage the tide, and try assimilate as many as actually want to stay. Do you think a jerkwad reactionary like Dean could do any better?
Unless you are ready to cowboy up and head for the border with lotsa ammo, the only position to take on this is to be constructive.
And to vote for people in the future who will in fact start moving us towards defensible borders and regulated immigration.
But I for one have no intention of starting what would be in effect an ethnic cleansing in this country. We let these people in, we encouraged them by hiring them and enjoying the low costs they represent. Now we are going to uproot them and toss them back to Mexico and Central America? I don't think so.....at least not yet.
