Why is it you can't see the real reason when I suspected it was the oil all along??
For a lot of us, even just accepting that the war was a mistake is a big step. Especially for a True Believer, which I admit I was. It can be tough enough beleiving that the admin messed up based on crappy intelligence.
The oil issue threatens to take us one step further, though...far from a screw-up, the war actually unfolded just as planned. Except of course, it wasn't the plan we were told about. The govt goes from incompetant to deceitful, making those us who supported the war "useful idiots," not for Sadaam of course, but for our own leaders.
A crime that immense is difficult to grasp. A lot of people won't even want to consider it as a possibility, because it'd force them to question pretty much anything they'd ever beleived. It'd betray fundamental flaws in our most basic institutions, perhaps shake our faith even in democracy and capitalism. If a nation like ours would willingly slaughter thousands of innocents in pursuit of profit and position, then what have we become?
