If he even existed. Not much evidence

Hate to stir up a hornet's nest here but there's not much evidence that Jesus Christ existed. Seems the only accounts of him are from writings 100 years or so after his supposed death. The Romans, meticulous record keepers, make no mention of a person resembling the man described in the New Testament including his very public death. Seems odd for someone that supposedly had such a huge impact on the society of the time.

In addition, so many of the stories of Jesus, his virgin birth, crucifixion, resurrection seem to be retellings of much earlier pagan mythology of other gods and prophets.

Until a year or so I was pretty much convinced that Jesus the man actually existed in the era he's supposed to have lived but the more I read and research, the more it appears to me to have been simply an attempt by Paul and others to energize their own sect.

Whatever the truth about it all is though, I'm not sure that if the world was to be required to follow the examples of one man, that Jesus would necessarily be the template for world peace. After all he is the living embodiment of a very ruthless God according to the Old Testament. His messages of peace and love seem to be easily counteracted with the OT teachings of war, revenge, pestilence and intolerence.
