Let's see, you've got a Web site purportedly put up by a bunch of people who "served with" Kerry (more on that deceptive phrase later) to express their heartfelt outrage against John Kerry. But the reality turns out that it's an "oppo-research" cell in the Republican machine, started and staffed by professional political operatives and bankrolled by bigtime Republican players.
You have to ask whether they're being honest? The basic premise of that site is a lie. And the afffiliated publicity push is no more honest: LarryJ posted a link to a right-wing site promoting SwiftVets and a related book, with the headline "Vietnam Vets Organization Blasts Kerry in New TV Ad". They're not a Vietnam Vets organization, they're a [@#$#$] PAC that was formed in April and whose membership isn't actually open to Vietnam vets, only to those who can tell the desired story about Kerry.
Consider the source. It's a fine example of the dirtiest of politics--the kind done to McCain last election by the Bush squad--and it's a harbinger of more to come.
Speaking of McCain, I read with interest the ABC News article Lindy linked to, in which McCain himself has this to say about the SwiftVets ad:
"I deplore this kind of politics. I think the ad is dishonest and dishonorable. As it is, none of these individuals served on the boat (Kerry) commanded. Many of his crew have testified to his courage under fire. I think John Kerry served honorably in Vietnam."
....
The Kerry campaign has denounced the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, saying none of the men in the ad served on the boat that Kerry commanded. The leader of the group, retired Adm. Roy Hoffmann, said none of the 13 veterans in the commercial served on Kerry's boat but rather were in other swiftboats within 50 yards of Kerry's.
Jim Rassmann, an Army veteran who was saved by Kerry, said there were only six crewmates who served with Kerry on his boat. Five support his candidacy and one is deceased.
Seriously, Tom, you actually had to ask if they're telling the truth or not? That goes beyond party loyalty into the realm of the insane.
