"Creating public policy based on religious beliefs is a direct threat to science, logic and common sense. It's the easy way out, the antithesis to hard work and difficult decisions. "
Where has policy ever been not based on religious beliefs? What scientist have not had religious beliefs? An argument can be made that without religion, science would have never have occurred. The problem is you are equating "religion" with some narrow sample. Religion is like water to a fish- it's all around you.
"It gives its proponents the ability to end lives and let some afterlife sort it all out later."
I suppose equating human life with animal life such a cow, gives you better results??
Without any form of religion why do you consider there is anything sacred to a human life?
If you consider all life sacred, the question is why? Why are the living more important then a bucket of dirt? Why isn't a BMW more important than a human life?
