Because if you had you'd see that my only concern is with religion and public policy mingling. I have held wonderfully, non-confrontational talks and debates with my religious friends and have never felt threatened by what the expouse or believe. None of the religious people I hang with have ever suggested that they are better or more moral people than me or others that don't share their beliefs.
Within the Bush family however, we had Daddy Bush saying he believed that atheists in this country should have no say in national policy. Next we had the current President saying that God had placed him in his position. We have a judge in Alabama wanting to put the Ten Commandments in public courthouses. We have the Republican party wanting to pass legislation that puts my tax money into faith-based organizations and parochial schools. Those sort of ideals are the ones that create exactly what this post is about - black and white issues that have no room at the table for other ways of thinking.
So if that's obsession to be a bit upset with that kind of lunacy in our government then I'll gladly wear the obsession label.
