"Let's try to explain this a bit. To an atheist, there is no afterlife, therefore this current time on Earth is all there is. "
But what is "all there is"- but some freakness aberration of single cell lifeforms? No?
"In a purely survival sense, making that life long and rewarding is a completely logical thing."
What is "rewarding" other than some "self deception" due to chemicals reaching your brain?
"Removing God and religion from the picture, the Golden Rule is also a very logical thing and an instrument of survival and quality of life."
Why did religion which is apparently irrational develop this Golden rule?
"It is not a stretch then to understand that killing other human beings flies in the face of logic. The Golden Rule and a strong knowledge of history tells us that killing others, except in self-defense , increases the possibility that the family and friends of those we kill are more likely to end our lives early."
Perhaps, but the Golden Rule is not "do not kill others, for other will kill you".
"Killing a cow however, is an aid to survival (except for the cholesterol) unless cows start arming themselves and fighting back. Were I not born with incisors I'd be a vegetarian since my own social upbringing has conditioned me to not enjoy other living things in pain, but it seems to me that evolution designed me to eat both plants and meat."
So, being a sneaky cannibal is ok?
