Cows and humans

I suppose equating human life with animal life such a cow, gives you better results??
Without any form of religion why do you consider there is anything sacred to a human life?
If you consider all life sacred, the question is why? Why are the living more important then a bucket of dirt? Why isn't a BMW more important than a human life?

Let's try to explain this a bit. To an atheist, there is no afterlife, therefore this current time on Earth is all there is. In a purely survival sense, making that life long and rewarding is a completely logical thing. Removing God and religion from the picture, the Golden Rule is also a very logical thing and an instrument of survival and quality of life. It is not a stretch then to understand that killing other human beings flies in the face of logic. The Golden Rule and a strong knowledge of history tells us that killing others, except in self-defense , increases the possibility that the family and friends of those we kill are more likely to end our lives early.

Killing a cow however, is an aid to survival (except for the cholesterol) unless cows start arming themselves and fighting back. Were I not born with incisors I'd be a vegetarian since my own social upbringing has conditioned me to not enjoy other living things in pain, but it seems to me that evolution designed me to eat both plants and meat.
