"Isn't the stretching of the troops proof of very bad judgment?"
Isn't not having troops proof of very bad judgement.
Now if you accept the fact that US troops are stretched and you think this isn't good [shouldn't do anything to make them more stretched], then the idea of having more troops in Iraq doesn't make much sense does it?
The problem is that the US shouldn't have to be nearly the only country with well trained miltary- remove the UK and Australia and US is about the only country with any sizable amount of well trained and equipped soldiers.
There is a fair amount of "peace keeping forces" and lots of badly trained troops, but if you need disciplined troops who are not going to violate the Geneva Conventions and fight, it's thin pickings out there.
Some people thought we went to Iraq for *Oil*, maybe we went there to get a country which is willing to support a large well trained army:)
Shh, it's secret.
