In Arizona, every candidate, nearly every proposition I took a stand on, I ended up on the losing side. Yeah, the sun will come up tomorrow and my life will not change much because I'm bright enough and resourceful enough to roll with the changes, but it's this feeling like your house has been robbed. You're rendered powerless, pushed to the sidelines to simply sit back and watch, even though you have so much to contribute.
I really worked, contributed and invested time and money this time and helped many young people to vote for the first times in their lives, convincing them that their input would count. Today they're suffering the same dissolution I am. Not exactly the best first experience at participatory democracy.
In many ways Kerry's defeat is easier to take since it was a crap shoot at best. It's easy to rationalize some semblence of a victory when he basically tied an incumbent war time president. There's also a sense of justice that Bush now has to clean up the mess he created in Iraq. I sincerely hope he's up to it.
Only time will tell. You guys might consider letting a few of us vent a bit for awhile. I would like to think I would have done the same had the outcome been different.
