Tom has mentioned the Lutheran church.
The Lutherans around here are very mainline, nothing like the evangelicals who are pushing the anti-science agenda. In fact, prominent members of the biggest Lutheran church around here were involved in the push to get the evangelical activists off of our school board.
Maybe it's different in the South.
Northern Baptists are very different from Southern Baptists, too. We had a Baptist minister who is an authority on sex education come in and defend its appropriateness as part of middle and high school curriculum.
Tom may not believe militant fundamentalist Christianity is a threat because he thinks it's all exaggeration, not having encountered it himself. He lives in California.
