The efficacy of both marijuana for glaucoma and nausea, and herion for the relief of intense pain, are both well demonstrated. General use and the laws regulating that are besides the point here.
The federal government already provides laws against diversion of abused opiates and cocaine derivatives, both refined and synthesized. They will need to legislate against diversion of these other drugs the same way, in a manner which they see fit - there is no overall social danger which could possibly justify them intruding on the physicain-patient relationship to the degree that patients are deprived of drugs which they need - it is up to the legislative branch to pass laws to secure the supplies against diversion, as it is their responsability.
When you consider how many people are needlessly suffering tonight because of the failure of the legislative branch to face up to their responsabilities, it is staggering. This terrible suffering by individual citzens has gone on for year after year after year after year, and it is long past time for someone in Washington to put a stop to it.
