Sam is right. Your response implies that the motivations for what Thompson did, never mind the other two examples I gave, were, more or less, a mid-life crisis and oversimplified thinking.
From here, and especially on some other boards, its painfully obvious that many liberals cannot conceive of anyone being a conservative unless they are operating on a lower cognitive level than the enlightened ones.
