re: Frank, are you being silly on purpose?

The dog says:"I'm going to choose to believe you haven't been exposed to American history prior to 1980. There's nothing like the benefit of the doubt among friends, is there?"

So here is some American history:

"The political journey that turned Reagan from ardent New Dealer into ardent Republican began about 16 years ago. He had voted four times for Franklin Roosevelt, and in 1948 for Harry Truman. In the yeasty postwar years he even served briefly on the board of the Hollywood Independent Citizens Committee of Arts, Sciences and Professions, an organization concocted, according to the testimony of a Communist Party functionary, in the offices of the Daily Worker. (When Reagan discovered the truth about HICCASP, he quit.)

In 1952 and 1956 he was a Democrat for Eisenhower, and in 1960 a Democrat for Nixon. Reagan maintains that he has remained constant throughout, while the political spectrum shifted, and that the Democratic Party left him rather than vice versa. He does not pinpoint the time when it wandered off. "It was a gradual process," he says. "I became more and more disturbed over some of the positions I found my party taking." In 1962 he finally decided the Democrats were not coming back to him, and became a registered Republican."
