Why is everyone answering this question as though it asked whether the US is was right to "torture" Iraqis?

It was very specific:

"Follow up: Are the enemies of America justified in torturing any Americans who come under their control on the chance they may have useful information?"

Is there an original Bowser post where I might get the frame of reference that you all seem privy to?
