Israel learned that there is no compromise with those who have as their goal your extinction. The Arab world fought three wars of extermination against Israel, including two when the West Bank was Arab territory. This isn't about the Palestinians, and never was.
In the same way, the radical Islamist war against the West isn't about legitimate grievances, but the fanatic belief that all that is not like them must be destroyed.
You're welcome to continue reflecting forever if you want. Some of us have already thought through the alternatives.
Nothing that would make the Islamists happy is anything Americans can live with.
