You know that I am no appeaser. However, I feel that the very presence of USA forces may actually encourage the latent Middle Eastern xenophobia and exacerbate the war. In addition, so long as the Iraqi government knows that it can depend on the USA, it has little impetus to get its act together. If they knew that the USA was beginning a pullout, and if they didn't get cracking they were dead meat, they would get off their asses.
I realize that the Iraqi forces have done some splendid work lately in cleaning out the various havens of terrorists. But the Iraqi Government is still twiddling its widdle in doing what it needs to do in order to establish a stable and strong democracy. I support giving them a kick in the ass by starting to withdraw forces. Even a token withdrawal will give them a hint.
