I was't in that time to see it by myself, but if you mean by "American imposed shah" that Shah came back to power by American help, as an Iranian i never have a problem with that.
Indeed Shah seemed to be a dictator too, I don't like to justify his crimes, but he was good in some aspects from what I have heard from my father.
For example:
In time of Shah the freedom of speech was 70%, now is 0%
Shah executed 200 people in 20 years, mullahs executed 200 people in 20 minutes (in the 80's)
In time of shah the freedom for women was 99%, now is 0.99%
In the time of shah no one was hanged or stoned to death because of having sex with his/her boy/girl friend.
In the time of shah you wouldn't get jailed and lashed because you wanted to freely drink your beer by the beach.
Shah built ALL univerisites, refineries and factories, mullahs destroyed ALL univerisites, refineries and factories
Etc
Etc
Etc
And you know, I am not Plato, just a normal Iranian, I want to be free like any other human being, so if I want to compare now with the time of Shah, I prefer shah to mullahs.
