But in my travels looking for the date and location of this golf game, I came across a woman's letter to the editor which pointed out, in essence, that the President cut short his vacation to run back to the White House in the middle of the night to interfere with the Schaivo case, but he screwed around while a huge hurricane bore down on the Gulf Coast and cut short his vacation only after the disaster.

Being President isn't just about being the head of your political party, or doing what your base wants. Being President is also about showing leadership in meaningful, symbolic ways. I would have thought that anyone who has a family would know that the place to be when a crisis is imminent is at home, where you can handle any little thing that comes up, and where people know they can reach you, to show you care.

It's not that he was on the golf course, or not. It was that he didn't care enough to go home and wait.
