Sorry.

My heart isn't in the whole Nixon thing anymore. I saw a TIME cover yesterday with Bush & Cheney "the White House' darkest hour", and the doctored darkened photo of Cheney to make him look like Satan's brother.

I thought to myself:

"Dang...if this is the White House's 'darkest' hour Bush must be doing pretty damn good."

If Nixon's major crimes against humanity were limited to breaking into some offices to find out what the DNC were doing and then covering it up - in retrospect that makes his Presidency pretty darn good too.

The more we learned about JFK, LBJ, Truman, Roosevelt etcetera, we learned what sort of people they were and how little they respected the law or other folks privacy.

Nixon's crimes and subsequent resignation were the result of a justifiable paranoia and a guilty conscience.

Or put another way...your attractive 17 year old daughter must be left alone with a President for several hours back in the time of their Presidency. Of the past six decades Presidents, which ones would you trust to leave her with?

For me the answer is pretty easy:

Ike, Nixon, Carter, Ford, Reagan & Bush would be safe choices.

Roosevelt, Truman, Kennedy, Johnson and Clinton could not be trusted.

Only one Democrat made the cut. That may seem like a simplistic measure of a President, but sometimes simplicity helps put things in perspective.
