Everyone seems to want the dirty work of maintaining a technological civilization for 300 million people to be done "somewhere else." When someone starts complaining about wind generators, solar power farms, or hydroelectric plants that have operated for decades, then they start to lose a lot of credibility in my opinion.
I can see high-tension power lines from my house. The same is true for millions of other people. They don't look as nice as an unbroken line of trees, but it's a small price to pay for being able to live in a warm house and work on a computer for a living. I think Kennedy could manage some windmills off on the horizon.
These early projects, particularly those like Cape Wind being funded by power companies, are critical in establishing the feasibility of further alternative energy projects. If thundering idiots like Kennedy and others throw obstacles in the way, other companies will not be encouraged to do similar things.
Cape Wind has been trying to get permission to start construction for over four years now.
