re: "move on" to what?

What the public wants ONLY matters if you want to use a lot of government money to do what YOU want. No one asks the public what they want from Comsats because Comsats are a self-sustaining industry. So it doesn't matter what the public wants, just the investment community.

Its long over due for the rest of space exploration to get on with a similar program. In 1983 G. Harry Stine recommended that NASA be abolished and the money used for tax credits for space development (like Oklahoma is doing now). Maybe its time to do just that and leave ISS to nations with a more socialist focus.

Heck I would even donate the Shuttle as well. Let's give it to the ISS partners (Congress could take the money out of the foreign aid budget) if they are so hung up on finishing ISS. Let them use THEIR money to fly it every year instead of demanding that "Uncle Sugar Daddy" subsidize their underfunded space programs with dollars from American taxpayers.

In addition to Tax Credits the money saved by junking NASA could also be used for prizes. How about $10 billion U.S. Dollars for the first American firm to alter the orbit of a NEO 1 mile or larger in diameter or $10 billion for the first American firm to land an astronaut on Mars. Then let the Market decided which is more doable, not politcal hacks and opinion polls.
