Back in the late 70s I made a nuisance of myself at L5 Society conferences by pointing out that their mission of trying to get the government to do what they wanted done was basically futile, and that eventually the private sector would be doing the job.
It took a lot longer than I thought to get the private sector rolling, but I will predict that ten years from now, and certainly twenty, most if not all manned space activity will be from the private sector.
