Now I've seen the cartoons. Let's see one of Jesus personally shooting up an abortion clinic.

Do you think any Christians might find that in bad taste?

Do you think that Muslims who are offended by the cartoons should just shut up?

I think they should all cancel their subscriptions to the newspapers that printed the cartoons and boycott, vigorously, their advertizers. But I'm an American, with a cultural tradition of such actions. I believe that people should be hit in the pocketbook, hard, and should be left alive to enjoy and appreciate their predicament.

The problem here is not that Muslims are offended by these cartoons. Some of them are awful. It's that some Muslims threaten violence in response.

I also think that making tee shirts of the worst cartoons for people to wear "in support" of free speech is provocative and inflammatory. Why should non-violent Muslims have to look at that stuff on people's torsos? "Free Piglet", on the other hand, is witty, and affords an opportunity for non-extremist Muslims to find common cause with non-extremist people of other faiths. Piglet is not shown about to murder anyone, but just being Piglet.

To push the awful stuff in the faces of average Muslims will only support for them the horrid opinion of non-Muslims that the extremists already repeat loudly and often. Pistol. Foot. BANG!

We want them to respect our institutions and our way of life. They would like us not to mock their most important religious figure in deeply insulting ways and then tell them to get over it. That's freedom of religion too.
