I also remember the moment that I learned how to read... or at least the moment when I first read on my own.... My mom left me in the car while she went into the State Farm insurance office... I was bored and saw signs all around- so I spelled them out and read them....

I was so blown away that I could read for myself.... I was ecstatic.... that is a LOT of power in a child's world :) I read constantly after that.

I was reading heinlein by age 8...

I terrified a teacher by reading 'Catcher in the Rye' in 4th grade- she felt it was inappropriate.
