re: Key word being "aggressive" of course.

I had to think about the assertion that Reagan was "confrontational". He was rhetorically confrontational--"Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!" won't be forgotten soon--but in action? He invaded Panama to settle an old score for the CIA, and invaded that prep school in the Carribean (drawing a blank)...but no, I just don't remember Reagan as anywhere near as belligerant and cocky as Dubya.

That vague assertion that Democrats "howled in agony" cracked me up. Hey Tom, remember how the Republican Congress reacted to Clinton lobbing 400 cruise missiles at Saddam Hussein? Accused him of fabricating the whole thing to distract attention from the Republican Monicagate setup...remember?

What matters is how Presidents act in office. And there your whole "cowardly Democrat" riff just collapses like the pitiful delusion it is. Let's see, we got Roosevelt winning WWII, Truman got us into Korea, Ike played golf, Kennedy got us into Vietnam and Johnson escalated into a quagmire (I think we ought to be more worried about Democrats possessing too much testosterone instead of too little)...and then there was Nixon, running on a promise that he had a secret plan to bring the boys home, and doing the Neville in Beijing. Any of this ringing a bell yet? Jerry Ford stumbled on the golf course, Carter stumbled badly in Iran, then the aforementioned Reagan, then HW....fine wartime leader, eh? Stopped the war short of Baghdad and left Clinton to deal with Saddam, which he did, kept Saddam successfully in the box, while Gore make a special study of bin Laden and al Qaeda, and the Clinton people tried to no avail to warn the Bushies of the danger from al Qaeda.

Democrats aren't aggressive enough? Oh man...I know I'll never get you to change your tune, but do you really expect that Republicans can win elections with that _rap?
