The Arabs had a deal with the British, dating from their help against the Turks in WWI. But of course, that means nothing. Except to them, and as we see, they are disposable compared to the newcomers. What a terrific way to gain their agreement.

In view of the history that brought them there, I should hope the Israelis would practice religious tolerance. That has nothing to do with economics and real estate, however.

The other nations as established had long histories as provinces under the Abbasid dynasty, which was destroyed by the Mongols in 1258 CE and supplanted by the Turks. You may not remember this, but the Arabs do. Incidentally, the official name of Jordan is the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The Hashemites are descended from the same clan as Muhammed's uncle. They founded the Abbasid dynasty, and they were the ones who assisted the British in WWI.

Legitimacy? Abdullah is descended from caliphs. Frankly, I think they should give Mecca and Medina to him, but the upstart Saudis will never allow it, and the Saudis have bought us but good. Meanwhile, their boys fly planes into our buildings. Go figure.
