No...

...look again. It looks like ER and I are somewhere on the same page here (another miracle!) and he, very eloquently, pointed out the role of religion in Israeli politics. My post followed Buck's post.

Israel needs our support, but at the same time, it feels like being a lifelong supporter of the Cleveland Indians - because one knows that despite ones support*, eventually, the outcome is, almost certainly, not going to be a win.

That's what's frustrating. It's like seeing someone build a home on quicksand. The builder has been very creative, ambitious and has a great work ethic and even figured out how to use inflatable foundation and walls, but one looks at it and scratches ones head, when one considerss the long term property values versus expenses incurred to keep the structure aloft.

Once Israel's neighbors all have nuclear weapons, our support will no longer be enough to protect them or keep the balance of power weighted in Israel's favor - because unlike our previous experience with the nuclear stalemate of mutually assured destruction (MAD) with the USSR, we are now dealing with irrational, religious fanatics, who are often suicidal and will seek the destruction of Israel at any price.

That's the problem in a nutshell.

And the clock is ticking.

*In this case support can be read as both moral and financial along with state of the art planes, tanks and weapons systems.
