No need to apologize

Good to see you dropping by, Mary Anne. I'll say its' not often enough, then enough said.

You must've seen Tom's post grumbling about the resurrection of this thread. Me, I think it's funny, and interesting too. There's the mystery of how people keep finding it (my theory that the RNC has interns periodically drop by to fan the flames is backed up what I noted about the log entries from yesterday). And there's the ongoing relevance of it. Just as this thread won't die, the original smear won't die, and has become the gold standard against which all later smears are compared.

By now, as many people know about the smear (as Shane witnessed) as knew about the swiftboating of John Kerry by the end of that election. Makes me wonder..."hope" may be the better word, but it's risky to apply to politics...if this time around enough people will recognize it for what it is, and it'll boomerang on the Republicans. Those 527s are going to be walking the knife's edge this election.

To completely change the subject [snicker], cockroaches, eh? How in the world did you settle on cockroaches for storytime?

I'd imagine a cockroach fingerplay would take a lot of manual dexterity, what with all the legs and all. Six, if I recall right...and yes, Wikipedia confirms...plus two antennae. If you fold your two thumbs, and press the edges of your hands together then rotate the outer edges down, you can sorta simulate six legs with your outer fingers and antennae with your index fingers. Does that help any? (Probably not).

Wikipedia helpfully informs me that cockroaches are members of the order Blattaria, which derives from the Latin word for "cockroach", blatta. Which resembles the sounds politicians make regularly, so maybe cockroaches aren't so far divorced from politics after all. And their families? Blaberidae, Blattellidae, Blattidae, Cryptocercidae, Polyphagidae, Nocticolidae. Blabbers, blatterers, cryptic utterancers, versatile killers, and creatures of the night. Yep, those are politicians.

(Preemptive surrender: You know Latin, I don't, I made it up.)

That's my quota of fun for today.
