The classics never die; and a warning about snopes.com

Most of the time when Atilla sends me one of those hit pieces, it's very old. It may be that they just circulate endlessly, and it takes a few years to saturate every inbox on the planet. Or they may be revived periodically, in the fashion of the cycles of plagues of locusts.

BTW, when I sent my Dad there a couple of nights ago, one of their advertisers popped up one of those fake "virus scanner" warnings urging the victim to download and install their scanner...which, of course, is actually a virus. The cruel thing about it is that a month ago it happened to him and he fell for it, and we spent a week trying to clean 47 viruses out of his computer. At least this time he knew not to click on it.

Nobody takes a shot at my Dad, so I tried to complain through their site message form, and got an automated formletter brush-off. So I looked up the registration records for snopes.com and repeated my message directly to the owner, and demanded a personal reply. No answer yet; stay tuned. The main message is, be careful at Snopes. At least one of their advertisers is a real snake in the grass.
