Also, whether this planet is tidally locked or not, areas surrounding undersea volcanoes are known to harbor life depending on the possibility that this planet's core is active.

Ocean thermal transport (good one, Nick) might make ocean life sustainable and possible(different sealife species may be possible) even if the planet is tidally locked.

Now I'm thinking of floating ice sheets on the dark side.
